Dragon Systems/Vendor/User Comments *************************************** From: Peter Cohen To: voice-users Subject: Dragon NaturallySpeaking Date: Friday, April 04, 1997 7:43PM Hi. I went to Dragon today thinking that I'd see something good but I wasn't prepared for what I saw from NaturallySpeaking (NS) for the 1st time. It is UNBELIEVABLE. BLEW me away. I'm not kidding and this is no marketing hype. Those of you who know me know I'm pretty low-key on this list but NS Personal Edition is AWESOME! It IS a large general vocabulary, true CONTINUOUS speech system. Now, it is very different than DD. You can't control the WIN environment. There is macro language but it is limited to 128 printable chars. (i.e. no ctrl or alt or Fs) It strictly is a dictation tool into its own word processor. You can then cut and paste it to your other applications. Many of the users on this list use DDWIN to control Windows and switch between and dictate to a lot of apps during the day. NS Personal can't do that. Maybe someday there will be NS versions that include that and more sophisticated capabilities. BTW. the question was asked about having DDWIN and NS loaded at the same time. You can't. Upgrade prices are tentatively set at $395 for users below DDWIN 2.5 and $295 for those above. The Dragon Team will be getting a lot of good "Press" over this product and they deserve it. -- Celebrating 6 years of providing DragonDictate Peter Cohen Peter Cohen Associates Premier DragonDictate Resellers 508-655-7711;pcohen@pc-associates.com http://www.pc-associates.com ***************************************** From: Joel Gould To: voice-users@cuckoo.hpl.hp.com Subject: Answers to questions about Dragon NaturallySpeaking Date: Monday, April 07, 1997 5:16AM With Dragon NaturallySpeaking Personal Edition, you dictate directly into the NaturallySpeaking editor window. You then can cut and paste using the clipboard (by voice if you want) to other applications. > will d/ns run on nt? Dragon NaturallySpeaking will run on both Windows NT 3.51 and Windows NT 4.00 as well as Windows 95. > will the full ("ga") product support both the continual speech *and* the > existing dragon dictate command/control/macro capabilities? Dragon NaturallySpeaking Personal Edition includes a fixed set of command and control capabilities. The built-in command and control is very similar to the types of macros which are built into DragonDictate for Windows. It does not include user programmable macros like DragonDictate. > From Rose > Since it's true 32 bit will it run faster on a Pentium Pro 200 > than on a Pentium 166? (Dragon Classic and all 16 bit programs > actually run slower on the Pentium Pro than on the Pentium 166. I believe that Dragon NaturallySpeaking will run faster on a Pentium Pro 200 than on a Pentium 166. > Would the MMX chip be the best environment for it? Dragon NaturallySpeaking does run somewhat faster using the MMX chip; however, the initial version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking does not currently contain any MMX-specific instructions. > Undertand there initially will be no command and control - must > work in a text editor - can voice macros still be written for for it? > DDEs? Dragon NaturallySpeaking Personal Edition does include some command and control capabilities; however, it does not support user programmable macros. Dragon NaturallySpeaking does support what we call "dictation shorthands" which are text-only macros. > Assuming that it works by dictating, then block copy|open > application|pasting - will it allow the user to create a > voice macro to do this? With Dragon NaturallySpeaking Personal Edition users cannot create a voice macro to do the cut and paste operation. However, Dragon NaturallySpeaking does include some built-in commands for this.
