There are many types of gloves and braces on the market to help keep the hands warm, circulation flowing and wrists straight.  If you are already injured, make sure to check with your medical specialist prior to using these.

Arch Assist

  • Estimated Price:  $15

Designed by a Cerified Hand Therapist and has a solid biomechanical basis for its effectiveness. It does not immobilize the wrist joint and therefore is less restrictive and more readily used.  The Arch Assist supports the palm, giving the wearer two benefits with respect to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

  • An optimum arched position of the palm promotes tension reduction in the transverse carpal ligament.
  • The dynamic nature of the Arch Assist gives positive support to the palm, helping to prevent finger flexor tendon movement toward the Median Nerve.

Their website contains further information and a nice guide to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome including stretches based on current research.

Thank you for linking to Canoe Creek Rehab Products and the Arch Assist. I also appreciate your feedback on the website. We conducted a pilot study to determine go or no go for the product. We have an edema measurement study planned which will be added to the web site when completed. The basic underlying biomechanical principal is promoting an arched position of the palm which also reduces the tension in the Transverse Carpal Ligament with subsequent decreased pressure on the Median Nerve. Additionally, the flexor tendons are maintained in a more dorsal position with respect to the Median Nerve. <snip>

Hand Eze GloveHANDEZE Thereputic Support gloves.

For the proper glove size (available in XS, S, M, L, and XL):
Measure the width of your hand, in inches, across the knuckles at the base of your fingers. (Do not include the thumb when measuring). Provide us with this measurement when you order, as well as your choice of color, either Beige or Slate Blue.

HANDEZEŽ Support Gloves combine three proven pain relievers - heat, support and massage. By putting on these fingerless, non-restrictive gloves, body heat becomes contained, raising the blood temperature in the wrist, hand and fingers. The form-fitting design gives support to the flesh and muscle structure of the hand and wrist. The four-way stretch material, LYCRAŽ, reacts to each movement, producing an automatic massaging and energizing effect. The more you work, the more you massage.

padded, wrist supportsKeyboarders

  • Estimated Price: $19.95 per pair, $10.95 per single
  • Availability: Direct
The Keyboarders are constructed of a double layer of stretch spandex. They are hand-sewn and have hidden seams so there is nothing inside to chafe the hands or wrists. A dense open-cell foam pad is sandwiched between the spandex on the inside and a vinyl pad cover on the outside.

Because the built-in pad cups and cushions the carpal bones, it protects the median nerve. You may continue with your activities, knowing that wearing the Mitt helps prevent further injury and allows the wrist to heal.

  • Estimated Price: $19.95 per pair, $10.95 per single
  • Availability: Direct
The SoftSplints are constructed of your choice of either Power-Stretch Fleece or Cotton Spandex. They are hand-sewn and have a hidden pocket under the wrist which holds a pad made of dense open-cell foam. This pad cushions the hand and helps stabilize the wrist.

You can type, work or rest in warmth and comfort. Both the Power-Stretch Fleece and the Cotton Spandex offer gentle compression and help to increase circulation. This is useful for cold hands, arthritis or pain in the hand, wrist, thumb or fingers. (For greater warmth choose the Fleece. For less bulk, choose the Cotton Spandex.)

wrist warmersMicroMitts (Heatable)

  • Estimated Price: $19.95 per pair, $10.95 per single
  • Availability: Direct

The MicroMitts are constructed of cordura and stretch fleece. They are hand-sewn and have a hidden pocket which holds a bag containing heat able grains. The MicroMitt can be heated in a microwave oven for 20 seconds. This will release approximately 20 minutes of soothing moist heat.

The moist heat released from the MicroMitt penetrates the wrist, increases circulation, and brings healing nutrients to the area. In addition, when worn at night the gloves help to keep the wrist from "curling." Keeping the wrist straight at night can help to prevent tingling and numbness in the fingers.
